MTV music television used to be purely music video based showing non stop music videos. As it had evolved over the years, the channel has
changed their logo to 'MTV' no longer being solely about the music video television it used to be, after the endless teen-focused reality shows came in to the limelight.

MTV Base focuses primarily on music from the world of R'n'B, Hip-Hop, Reggae, Soul and Urban music. Much of the artists shown on this channel are of African-American, with some British artists targeted mainly to teenagers (mid to late) and early adults (post 20). Some of the shows on this channel include 'The Official UK Urban Chart' and 'Hot N Heavy R&B & Hip Hop'.

MTV Dance is a 24 hour dance music channel showing mostly music videos rather than shows. Much of the music is heavily influenced by European pop and clubland music associated with DJ's. The targeted audiences are mainly young people who are regular club goers. Some of the shows shown on MTV Dance are 'Oblivion', 'MTV Club Classix' and 'The Dancefloor Chart'.

VH1 is an alternative to its youth orientated channel MTV. The channel targets an audience between 25 to 44 year olds, VH1 aims to be "mature, sophisticated and totally stylish for viewers who still feel young and want to keep in-touch with what is happening on the music scene today." The music they play consists of music from the 1970s right through to today.

MTV Classic is a 24 hour music channel showing music videos from the 60s onwards. Again it's target audience is similar to VH1's.

MTV Rocks is a an alternative 24 hour music channel heavily focused on alternative rock and indie music. Former programming included shows for example 'Jackass', 'Dirty Sanchez' and 'Viva La Bam' which are all shows based stunts. Current shows involve, 'The Official Rock Chart' and 'Saturday Night Indie Disco'.

Channel AKA (formerly U) is a British digital satellite TV channel, focusing on playing upcoming UK urban/hip-hop music. The channel is known for being a starting point for many unknown UK artists as it plays lower budget videos from lesser known artists, and in their own words, "Don't play the same American stuff over and over again" although the channel does play US hip hop, rap and R'n'B music. The channel's main focus is the genre of Grime music and UK Hip Hop.
